The Basic Checks

It won’t be wrong to say that Magento is one of the most secure application and is probably not targeted as much as the other Content Management Systems. The ecommerce application is well-known for its secure platform that keep store owners secure from many vulnerabilities.

Although this is an assuring fact, it does not mean that Magento owners should turn a complete blind eye. There’s a lot of ground that needs to be covered before you are sure that the store is free from all vulnerabilities. The best thing you can do is to implement the security measures yourself. There’s a lot of technicality that you can get into, but if you keep the basics covered you should be able to negate a huge majority of the attacks and hacks.

In this post, I have highlighted some tips to run quick checks that can ensure the security of your Magento powered store.

The Basic Checks

Before anything, you need to make sure that your Magento and all its extensions are up to date. There are various updates and patches that come out time after time and ensure that any known loopholes are taken care of. With the application itself, you need to make sure that you run the latest version of Magento. Downloading the latest releases, security patches and tools means that you’ve done most of the work since they have various functional fixes and enhancements.

One of the most effective and probably the most overlooked way of securing your Magento store is to use smart usernames and passwords. You can use complex passwords to harden the security and even change them every now and then. SSL certificates is also an essential layer of security that protects sensitive data.
